Overview

Kedarnath is one of the Char Dham Hindu pilgrim centers which is located at a distance of 223 km from Rishikesh in Uttarakhand and has gained importance because of Kedarnath Temple.

Kedarnath Temple, is a Hindu temple dedicated to Shiva. Located on the Garhwal Himalayan range near the Mandakini river.Due to extreme weather conditions, the temple is open to the general public only between the months of April ( Akshaya Tritiya) and November (Kartik Purnima the autumn full moon). Temple is closed during the winter months due to heavy snow.

The town suffered extensive destruction during June 2013 from flash floods caused by torrential rains in Uttarakhand state.

The complete trek of Kedarnath is of around 14 - 16 kilometers which starts from Gaurikund to Kedarnath.
